New York Fashion Week will stage hundreds of runway shows, but before the first model walks, there’s always the annual Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology luncheon. A staple on the NYFW calendar, this year’s event lauded Thom Browne with the Award for Artistry of Fashion, which was presented on Wednesday at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. With a guest list that included such industry heavy hitters as Linda Fargo, Andrew Bolton, and Vogue’s own Hamish Bowles, the scene was enough to rival fashion’s most exclusive front row. And in true sartorial form, everyone came dressed in their best Thom Browne. “Thom resides in this very special zone that lives between art and fashion” said Fargo, recalling Brown’s next-level runway sets, which have ranged from swimming pools to ice-skating rinks. “To be able to leave an imprint, to create a signature, and to make a difference in a world that is very crowded is why we’re here today.”
