This space might be closer to an incredibly outfitted Airbnb, but it’s certainly considered a real hotel. Erected inside a 17th-century building, Droog operates mainly as a modern design shop and exhibition space. There is also a spa, a garden, food, and, last but not least, the bedroom upstairs. The top floor of Hôtel Droog can be reserved just like a regular room, though this one comes with a fully stocked kitchen and perfectly curated contemporary furniture and decor.

Opened last year, the Hotel Covell is a micro-hotel that has five rooms and is housed inside a 1930s building on Hollywood Boulevard. The design of each of the five rooms (the hotel calls them chapters) represents the life and story of George Covell, a fictional writer dreamed up by the owners. Each space has its own distinct personality, whether that is rustic, eclectic, or mid-century modern. The rooms are cozy and comfortable, some come complete with their own kitchen and living areas.

With a 24-hour concierge service and privacy in one of London’s busiest neighborhoods, No.5 Maddox is one of the more exclusive options on the small hotel scene. Tucked away in Mayfair, No.5 features six suites that range in size from one bedroom up to three. All of them are gorgeously appointed, and the Terrace Loft suite and Bartlett suite even offer outdoor space.

The property is housed in a gorgeous Colonial-era mansion, with four pools, a beautiful roof deck, a high-end Italian restaurant, and a spa. The Alma Histórica hotel is located in Montevideo, Uruguay, with 15 rooms inside a converted, 1920s Art Nouveau–style mansion near the city’s main square. Each room is comfortable and spacious and the rooftop features a lounge area with a hot tub. While there’s no dedicated spa, the hotel will arrange for in-room services like massages and facials with 24 hours’ notice. There’s also a quaint little restaurant for breakfast and light bites, as well as a laid-back bar.

The Hotel Palisade is one of Sydney, Australia’s newest establishments, with eight well-designed rooms offering views of the city skyline. Each room features a queen-size bed; tiled bathrooms; and deluxe rooms have kitchenettes and separate seating areas. The building is a city landmark that reopened last year with a gorgeous new top-floor bar called Henry Deane. Not only is this a comfortable place to stay, it’s also becoming one of the city’s coolest hangouts, too.
