You know, Mr. Armani is such an amazing artist.
So to be here and to see his work in person is so thrilling.
Japan has been very good to Giorgio Armani
and now that the country is suffering
he wanted to give something back to it.
So he dedicated his latest Couture show to Japan.
[electronic music playing]
I love Japan and I saw this inspiration from Japan,
with this really amazing craftsmanship.
Was really, really astounding to me.
I thought it was one of the most exciting fashions I saw.
It was quite restrained and subtle.
A lot of times, when designers do Japan they go a bit crazy.
I thought it was exceptionally beautiful.
They just gave the models,
sort of incredibly elegant posture.
It was elegant.
It was chic.
It was classic, yet a little boyish, had a lot of twists.
And the clothes were so beautiful.
The details, the flowers, the beading.
The cut, the skirts, the jackets.
It was just a kind of Par Excellence recurring theme.
Because he really worked in all of those
beautiful vertical pleating,
the way all the kind of prints worked,
and that amazing kind of geometry
that you don't quite appreciate unless you see it up close.
Philip, with those beautiful headpieces,
has kind of made amends I think,
for the pink Princess Bea hat now.
He loves hats, and I do too.
So he doesn't really like the idea
of five or six hats in a show.
He likes 50 hats in a show.
[Tim] What surprised you the most
about what you just saw?
It's just all of it being so avant garde
and still timeless at the same time.
He can be always new and modern
and still be Giorgio Armani in his blood and DNA.
You know, it's really difficult to do that.
An amazingly respectful and beautiful gesture,
apart from being exquisite.
[Tim] It's remarkable to see that
from Mr. Armani at this stage in his career, I think.
God is in the details, as they say.
The fabrics were beautiful,
and I feel like they invented a color.
That incredible mandarin.
That dusty, pink mandarin color.
Mr. Armani likes it slow.
He says, You know, there's too many beautiful details
and people work so hard on these clothes.
Let people who are watching the show enjoy it and see it.
