Style.com’s Guide to Denim Shopping in NYC
Released on 04/07/2015
I've always been freakishly obsessed with denim.
In junior high I would leave my house before dawn
every single Sunday to troll the flea markets
for vintage Levi's.
Over the years I have amassed a pretty solid collectsion,
28 pairs and counting.
I can't imagine ever getting over my obsession.
I'm Rachel Wang and this is my guide
to shopping for jeans in New York.
A.P.C. is known for raw denim.
It can be really time consuming
to break in your own jeans
and so the butler program was born.
Someone else does the work for you.
These are raw denim jeans worn for a couple years
so that you can walk out of the store
with that great, one-of-a-kind broken in look.
Top Shop is my favorite place to buy mom jeans.
The rise is extra high,
the legs are tapered to perfection
and the washes are extra momish.
I promise you nobody does it better.
Levi's is the all-American classic
I grew up on.
It will always be my favorite.
They have a great new line called 501ct,
which preserves all the best aspects of vintage 501 jeans:
the great washes,
classic pockets and button fly.
But they've customized the fit
and tapered the legs
for a more flattering, modern look.
What Goes Around Comes Around is my favorite place
to buy vintage denim.
This particular pair of Levi's is called the ZXX
and comes from 1954,
which was the only year that the 501 featured a zipper.
It's also the slimmest cut Levi's ever did in the 501.
They're made from Cone Mills 10 ounce selvage denim
and naturally indigo dyed.
A pair of jeans this old and in such amazing condition
is very rare and might set you back a few bucks.
There are so many different occasions
that call for different styles.
I really believe you can never have too many jeans.
