So before I was who I am today,
before I was anybody known,
I was a very sweet, wide-eyed 19 year old.
I was just making a little bit of money and starting out,
and I met a guy, met a hot guy.
An actor, who I will not name his name.
Let's call him John.
Because if I told you his name, you'd know who he is.
We start dating,
and we go on all these really adorable dates.
We took my dog on walks,
and we would come back to my cute new little condo,
and we'd watch movies.
At 19, I'm sitting there, I'm looking at this guy,
going I am going to marry him.
This is the father of my children, I'm so in love!
Because he was magical.
Everyone that met him loved him too.
And it was like, we looked cute together.
Nothing could go wrong.
He wanted to take me on a really nice romantic dinner date.
It was kind of a surprise.
And I was so excited,
because we hadn't really done this yet.
We had this great dinner, and we got along,
the conversation was great.
The bill comes,
and me trying to be all cute and demure,
I'm like, I'll get that bill.
He says No, I'm gonna take care of it.
So I said well let me split it with you.
He goes, Absolutely not, I'm taking you on the date.
Absolutely not.
So I look at him, and I was like eeeee,
you know, thinking of the future.
Takes the bill out and he's looking at it,
like really seriously.
Like looking, and then looking up,
and then like his face is getting kind of squinty,
and kind of.
So first I thought maybe he couldn't see,
maybe he needed glasses, I didn't know him too well,
and he kind of closes it back up.
He's not put a card down, he's not done anything yet,
he's just staring at the bill.
What is wrong with this guy?
Why is he taking this long?
But I wanna, you know, this guy's perfect,
I wanna marry him, so I need to like be cool.
So he proceeds to get into his pocket
and takes out his phone.
At this time, this was many years ago,
the phone was like
a printer.
Was he going to make a phone call right now?
This was a very odd time to be doing this
when we should be making out.
He goes to the calculator on his phone,
and my brain, I start to get a little bit hot,
because I think I'm realizing what's happening.
He's multiplying like and 8% tip.
Oh my God, he's cheap.
He's cheap, he's a bad tipper.
Let me back up for a second.
I grew up in a house with amazing parents.
It wasn't like a rich family,
but my dad, he was like this known big tipper.
We had a driver, someone helping us,
he always had cash for him, always, always.
And I knew like I had to be with a guy in the future
who was the same, 'cause I was that way.
I'm thinking,
this can't be.
Like, how would I ever introduce this guy to my dad?
Ahhhhhhh, why?
Also, the other, like, sane part of me
is thinking, Kaley,
you can't break up with a guy because he's cheap.
He's say, Let's go to dinner.
I'd was like no, let's stay in.
I think he started thinking that I was becoming
like rally weird and introverted.
It started to get to the point where, when he would pay,
which was hilarious, he wanted to pay for everything,
I'd make up these lies.
Oh, Babe, I left my sunglasses inside.
I would like run back inside, throwing cash to the server,
or whoever we owed money to.
And I just didn't know how we could progress.
I mean let's be honest.
This entire relationship was built on lies,
because I'm just lying to him.
And I think he started to think
I was a little bit crazy too,
like she's a little losing her mind,
constantly leaving shit everywhere.
He's thinking I'm crazy,
when I'm trying to cover his cheap tracks!
People thought he was so generous,
but I was going broke.
I'm not on Big Bang at his point.
I don't have the Big Bang money, no!
If we had like a cab, or we took a driver, no tip.
Who does, no tip!
He's just cheap.
It was getting really bad, and I knew,
I could feel the end was near.
He wanted to meet my family, which of course then
I'm back to being swooned, and,
oh, he wants our families to meet, he must love me!
So we have this amazing dinner,
and because he is as adorable and wonderful as he was,
my dad gives me the, like, Picked a good one.
And all I'm thinking is, oh my God, oh my God,
the bill is coming.
John grabs it, I'm gonna take care of this.
Oh my God, yeah,
I bet you're fucking taking everyone out tonight.
$600 bill, you're gonna leave $13, I was horrified.
I can't let my dad, who my dad is like my idol,
see my cheap boyfriend.
My cheap boyfriend, that's what it was,
my cheap, hot boyfriend.
My dad doesn't care if he's hot.
My dad cares if he tips.
And I couldn't ever admit to my dad
that that's who this guy was.
I wouldn't have been able to live with myself,
no matter how hot he was.
I did go back in and tip the server.
I never went back into that restaurant again,
'cause I was so embarrassed, and we broke up a week later.
You would die if I told you who this was.
Okay, I'm gonna tell you.
