The wedding weekend began on Thursday night with a bonfire on the beach. For the first event of the weekend, Nicole chose a classic slip dress by Victoria Beckham in a custom shade of pink. “It felt so light and elegant on the beach,” she says. “My stylist Thomas Carter Phillips pulled a funky pair of silver Manolo Blahnik heels which were perfect for photos, but I ended up barefoot in the sand for most of the night—a running theme!” Indeed, Nicole notes that one of the most unique things about Hotel Esencia is that you can be barefoot everywhere and anywhere. “We wanted a destination that felt private, romantic, and very relaxed,” she says. “The best part? We had a full moon for the entire weekend. It rose directly behind us on the beach on Thursday and felt very full circle from the proposal to now.”

On Friday, Nicole chose to wear a set by Danielle Frankel, one of her favorite bridal designers, for the rehearsal dinner and welcome party. “I ended up selecting this tulle set for my rehearsal dinner because it felt very appropriate for our setting,” the bride explains. “It was wonderfully unique and the delicate detail throughout was so dreamy.” She paired the set with ivory Manolo Blahnik heels, and her jewelry held a special, sentimental significance. “I always knew I wanted to incorporate the engagement ring my dad gave my mother into my wedding weekend,” Nicole adds. “She kept it after he passed away and my gorgeous sister Christine had the round stone set in a pave necklace for her wedding a year ago. I chose to wear it for my rehearsal dinner. It felt so special to have a piece of my dad with me on such an important night. “

The couple and their guests started with cocktails on the rooftop terrace, and then made their way poolside for toasts from some of the couple’s closest friends and family. “Many tears were shed and we were overwhelmed with gratitude for the people who have made such a huge impact on our lives, both as individuals and as a couple,” Nicole says. Next, they moved over to the welcome party for drinks round two, noting that they wanted to use local vendors and musicians as much as possible. “Our band for the night, The Cubanismos, really got the party started,” Nicole says. “As did the stilt walkers!”

The ceremony took place at 5 p.m. on Saturday just off the beach. “We had initially wanted to get married down by the water, but when we woke up on Saturday morning, the wind was incredibly strong and sand was whipping around,” Nicole explains. “We pulled the ceremony back into a tucked away cove. The ocean was still visible but we were protected under a canopy of palm trees.”

The bride’s sister sang an angelic version of “Moon River” as she walked down the aisle. “It was so moving to hear her beautiful voice wafting over the soft waves as my step-father Dan McNulty and I made our way through all our family and friends toward Justin at the end of the aisle,” Nicole says. The flowers lining the aisle were wild and natural and made to look as if the had sprung directly out of the sand. “Our floral designer Vanessa Jaimes did such a beautiful job,” Nicole adds.

“All I’ll say is, it was wonderful,” Justin remembers. “Ceremonies with vows are about the words contained within them. And they are better left un-described here. That being said, the officiant said some wonderful things, and my wife was just…well, incredibly touching. I was very moved.”

For her wedding wardrobe, Nicole wanted to feel like herself, while also reflecting the relaxed surroundings. “On a weekend upstate with some friends, Victoria Beckham sweetly asked what I was planning to wear,” the bride remembers. “Justin has known David [Beckham] for many years, and we met Victoria last summer. In December, we had a couples weekend upstate with David, Victoria, and our close friends Zanna and Rassi—their twins were our flower girls!”

It was there that Victoria drilled down on Nicole’s wedding dress options, wanting to know all the details—and then at one point she just offered to design it for Nicole. “I showed her a few of my options and she suddenly, and hilariously, started describings what she envisioned for my gown—something more ethereal, flowy, and light for the sand, with tulle and soft flowers—it sounded like a dream.”

“We weren’t quite sure if she was serious or not,” Justin admits. “But she absolutely was. A few weeks later, Nicole was in London for fittings.”

“I have always adored Victoria’s style and her vision was exactly what I was hoping for so when she so generously offered to make my dress, I was so grateful and overjoyed,” Nicole says. “The dress was perfect—elegant and timeless while also youthful and just a little sexy.” Nicole completed her look with custom Manolo Blahnik sandals made to match her ivory Victoria Beckham dress.

Justin always knew he would wear Ralph Lauren for his big day. “I wanted to wear exactly the look that Ralph wears,” the actor explains. “His signature cream jacket, single button, white shirt, black bow tie, and black tuxedo pants. It was impeccable, but also infuriating because he wears that look better than anyone else can, certainly better than I do. I was very close to stripping my hair to silver in an effort to look as foxy as him. But there can be only one Ralph.” For the other evening’s events, Justin wore a combination of Saint Laurent and Thom Browne suits. “Thom Browne is just incredible,” he says. “And they’re the only suits that I can rock with a combat boot. Yes, I am the person that wears suits and boots to the beach.”

Meanwhile, Nicole’s bridesmaids strapless dresses from one of her favorite brands, Anna Quan. “They all rocked bare feet down our sandy aisle,” she says. And Justin explains that the groomsmen were supposed to all wear black suits, white shirts, and black ties. “Let’s face it, groomsmen should look like the poster for Reservoir Dogs,” he laughs. “That’s the mood board. That one picture. Jimmy Kimmel, however, claimed not to get the memo—he absolutely did—and showed up wearing some weird black and blue seersucker. So he was relegated to the back row for a lot of the pictures. It’s absurd because he’s on TV every night wearing exactly what I wanted him to wear.”

“I kept saying I felt so at peace and so loved all weekend,” Nicole says. “Our officiant and my brother-in-law, Patrick McQuade, had us take a moment at the top of our ceremony to face our guests and really soak in the moment. I was overwhelmed with gratitude, love, and joy. To see so many faces smiling back at me from so many different walks of life and generations felt incredibly grounding and magical. Looking into Justin’s kind, hazel eyes during the ceremony made me feel very safe and loved.” After walking down the aisle, the newlyweds took 10 minutes by themselves to really absorb what they had just experienced and discuss a few of their favorite moments from the ceremony. “It was the greatest little reset before rejoining our favorite people for cocktail hour on the lawn,” Nicole says.

Nicole’s reception dress was actually the first dress she found for the weekend. “My fabulous stylist Thomas Carter Phillips sourced the gorgeous reception and after-party look from Shrimpton Couture,” she says. “I changed into the Chanel gown from 1997 with a high slit and paired it with my bare feet because I’d already kicked off my heels earlier in the night.”

The reception opened with the couple’s close friend Eliot Sumner singing two songs. “He was actually one of the first people we saw in Italy after our engagement,” Nicole says. “He sang while we were with his family in Tuscany, and we instantly knew we needed him to serenade us and our guests whenever our wedding day arrived. We couldn’t have asked for a better gift.” Afterwards, Nicole’s stepfather, Dan McNulty, gave a father-of-the-bride speech, and her sisters delivered a moving speech in their roles as co-maids of honor. “All three speeches moved me to tears,” Nicole says. “Justin’s best men were fantastic and had all our guests belly laughing by the end of their toasts.”

A mariachi band then led the newlyweds to the dance floor where they twirled to “I’ve Told Every Little Star,” by Linda Scott. “A first dance and an homage to David Lynch,” the groom says, referring to the late director who was a regular collaborator of Justin’s. “We danced for three hours straight with all our guests beneath a canopy of disco balls,” Nicole adds. “My 93-year-old grandma, Laura Bloom, was the life of the party.” Paul Rudd also did a lip synching performance of ‘Don’t Stop Me Now,” which made for a funny moment on the dance floor.

Those who stayed up late night ended up tucked away in little speakeasy at the hotel. “It was rowdy with great music—and Patrick, our officiant, just kept yelling ‘This is the best night of my life!’” Nicole recalls. “A few mermaids ended up swimming in the pool above. It was the perfect celebratory way to end a fabulous weekend!”
