This summer has seen the world’s most stylish scurrying from weddings to galas, premieres to fashion shows. These ladies are busy! And it isn’t enough to merely attend a glittery event; this season, one has to challenge expectations with thoroughly irreverent style. At the Serpentine Galleries’ annual fete at London’s Kensington Gardens, FKA Twigs went retro in a suit from John Galliano’s Fall 1997 collectsion for Christian Dior. Gold with a teal leaf pattern from head to toe, her tailored archival look challenged all conventional notions of English garden-party attire. Other Serpentine guests were equally adventurous: Jourdan Dunn opted for a rainproof PVC mini dress from Chanel. Zadie Smith arrived in a flowing crimson gown and one of her signature turbans in bubble gum pink.
In Paris, the experimental vibe carried over into the week’s big nuptials with bride-to-be Zoe Kravitz opting for silk bike shorts by Danielle Frankel for her rehearsal dinner at newly reopened Lapérouse. Worn with a matching bra and an overlay of crochet pearls, the look was carefree yet elegant—exactly what modern brides demand.
Even the week’s red carpets required dresses with a wow factor. In New York, Sienna Miller went Grecian goddess in an Oscar de la Renta draped white gown for a screening of The Loudest Voice, while Yara Shahidi matched the ice blue carpet of the BET Awards in sequin-covered Prabal Gurung. The world premiere of Spider-Man: Far from Home gave the week its astonishing moment with Zendaya in a sleek Armani Privé look worthy of a superhero.
