A Closer Look at Maggie Rogers’s Vintage Chanel Dress at the Grammys

Last night was a Grammys first for Maggie Rogers, with the breakout singer nominated in the Best Emerging Artist category. For the exciting night, Rogers hit the red carpet in a vintage Chanel dress from the label’s pre-fall 2014 collectsion adorned with gold embroidered stars—a fitting creation for a rising star herself. “I started crying the moment I got dressed yesterday. It felt like it was my wedding day or something,” Rogers shared the day after the event. “That’s part of why I love vintage so much—clothes can carry a special energy. This dress made me feel so confident and beautiful and empowered, but also so relaxed. It had the heart and soul of my record stitched in.”

Rogers’s exclusive photo diary began with a glam session that was centered around her gown. “I was inspired by her Chanel dress,” said makeup artist Linda Gradin. “The mix between the gold and silver felt like a natural way to create a look that would feel beautiful, classic, and wearable.” The hair, meanwhile, was kept loose and effortless. Then, it was time to slip on the dress itself; Rogers’s stylist, Kat Typaldos, said the throwback piece actually found them—not the other way around. The dress had emerged during a fitting with Chanel for an event predating the Grammys. “She tried on the dress and it fit like a dream,” she said. “This was months ago, before she became nominated for a Grammy—we all witnessed that this dress held power and required a special moment to activate. For lack of a better expression, the stars aligned, and we found a perfect cosmic platform for Maggie and this dress.”

When it came to pick out the finishing touches last night, the star accessorized her gown with fine jewelry from Chanel as well, including 18-karat white gold earrings with diamonds and an 18-karat white gold ring with diamonds and pearls. To finish the look, she went for mesh booties with a floral embellishment that added a comfortable (but still refined) accent. Rogers’s favorite accessory of the night, however? Her best friend Taylor Brock, who acted as her date for the evening and was dressed in a hot pink outfit. The duo even finished off their looks with matching bedazzled flasks bearing the initials of their first names. After all, the Grammys are nothing if not a big ol’ party. “This year, this day, it’s going to take me some time to process,” Rogers said of the fun night. “Everything still feels a bit surreal.”
