Nothing Beats the Peacocking Celebrity Style at Couture Week

Couture week reliably offers a dash of fashion escapism every year. Sure, you could say every fashion week does this—but Couture is even more dream-like and fantastical. Designers craft intricate clothes that take weeks—if not months—to produce, and it’s less about the wearability factor as it is an exercise in melding creativity and craft. The same could be said for the celebrities sitting in the front row: Many A-listers show up in daring ensembles that are meant to shock and awe. And to that, we say thank god. It’s a refreshing alternative to the traditionally glamorous gowns we often see at Hollywood movie premieres, awards shows, and even during the regular fashion months.

Within the last few years, some of the most memorable celebrity style moments have come out of the Parisian event. Remember when Celine Dion took over the Couture shows back in 2019? When the superstar showed up to the Alexandre Vauthier show in a draped, off-the-shoulder gown with puffed sleeves, she posed for the paparazzi in equally dramatic fashion. The same could be said for Julia Fox last year, who was the talk of the town after appearing at Schiaparelli. These are headline-making outfits, and these celebrities’ willingness to test out a new look and experiment always makes for a spectacle.

This peacocking spirit was certainly alive and well this past week, too. Nobody’s been doing it better than Doja Cat this past week, who, among other ensembles, covered herself in 30,000 red crystals for the Schiaparelli show. Talk about devotion to the vision. Her glam team, lead by the masterful Pat McGrath, took five hours to execute the look! At the same show, Kylie Jenner went viral for wearing Daniel Roseberry’s lion head design (rest assured, it was made out of faux fur and resin). 

Critics could call these fashion approaches outlandish—over-the-top—maybe even silly. But to us, they’re what Couture week is all about: Stepping out of the box and creating a moment. It's an event that’s hard to defeat in terms of imagination and execution—though, perhaps it’s a tie with the annual Met Gala, which is coming up in May. Let’s see what that red carpet holds—hopefully, a continuation of this no-holding-back Couture energy.
