Cynthia Erivo Brought Fashion Drama (and Several Costume Changes) to the 2025 Tony Awards

On Sunday night in New York City, the 2025 Tony Awards honored the best productions and performances on Broadway from the last year. And while there were plenty of exciting wins and speeches throughout the evening, it was host Cynthia Erivo who broke out as the ceremony’s standout entertainer. From her powerful live performances to her charming banter, Erivo put on a real show—and her impeccable (and totally theatrical) wardrobe, styled by Jason Bolden, matched the energy.

Of course, numerous costumes changes are fairly standard for the host of any major awards show these days, but Erivo upped the fashion ante on Sunday, delivering one avant-garde creation after the next. The through-line in all her looks? She and Bolden tapped only the top fashion houses to deliver their boldest and most spotlight-worthy pieces.

She kicked things off by walking the step and repeat in a sculptural Schiaparelli couture gown by Daniel Roseberry; it featured an exaggerated, off-the-shoulder jacket and column skirt with embellishments of velvet, rhinestones, and pearls. Then, for her grand opening number, Erivo enlisted Gap creative director Zac Posen to create a custom white and red tuxedo gown—setting a striking tone for the rest of the show.

She followed that up with a black and gold sequined cape gown by Valentino; a white and black double-breasted Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo; and a voluminous pink Marc Jacobs dress with oversized sequins. Forget the trophies—for Erivo, the night was all about style and wow factor.
